The Cottage 'Radharc na Locha' on the northern side to the island, is situated at The Valley Cross Roads and is overlooking two small lakes and The Mamturk Range of mountains on 1.5 acres of garden. Two miles away is the historical village of Dugort on Blacksod Bay. The dining and kitchen area looks out on the ever-changing majestic view of Slievemore Mountain. On many short walks from the cottage can be found beautiful Blue Flag beaches with undeveloped coastline. The island has had over many years the patronage of a host of many well known writers, poets, and painters. Drivers need to be on the lookout for cows and sheep when negotiating the island's narrow network of roads, around bogs, mountains and coastline.
The island is approx. 12 miles by 15 miles and has a population of around 3,000. There are many good restaurants and hostelries, where you can sample local hospitality. Five minutes' walk from the cottage nestled away in the trees, you will find our "Local" The Valley House which throughout the year has many impromptu talented music sessions.
Activities are numerous, with the newly opened Great Western Greenway in Achill Sound for excellent cycling and walking. There is fantastic surfing and windsurfing on the island for beginners and advanced, along with kite surfing lessons available. Walking and hiking are on your doorstep with a number of great walks available (a booklet of island walks is available in the house). Fishing can be done from the beaches or the rocks with the option to hire your own boat for sea fishing and golfing is available on Mulranny golf course and the island's own golf course.
House Overview
The cottage has been renovated to the highest standards to make a comfortable and cosy home. The cottage has 3 double bedrooms and 1 triple bedroom and a travel cot, one ensuite and two with a shared ensuite bathroom all on the ground floor along with a loft with two single beds and a writing desk overlooking Slievemore mountain.
The open plan living area has a fully equipped kitchen with oven, hob, microwave, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine /dryer and dining table seating 12 people. The sitting room is comfortably furnished with a turf fire, television, DVD player and internet access. Access to patio from dining area. Oil fired central heating and turf provided for fire.
